over 3 years ago – Fri, Sep 25, 2020 at 05:57:33 PM

Hi,

The second winner of our Monster Warship giveaway has been drawn.

Website link

If you haven't done so yet, you should check out their line of hats. I heard from a couple of backers that they bought the hats and they are awesome.

Right now we sit at $16,977, which puts us just $700 away from funding! You have locked in the Surprise unlock.

And once we hit the funding goal, you'll unlock the Fundle Bundle too!

This is EASILY the biggest digital comic package I've given during a campaign, and I'm super excited to unleash it upon you!

Some awesome projects you might have missed

With almost 250 projects in the comics category right now, it's easy to miss some cool ones, so I'm going to share with you more cool ones I found in my journey through Kickstarter in the past few days.

Comic Unity Online Convention 2020

Kickstarter link

Why I think you'll love it:

Who doesn't miss conventions? Earlier this year my friend Wendy ran a virtual convention through Kickstarter. I thought it was a bonkers idea, but people loved it. Then, two months later the world shut down, and her idea seemed even more brilliant. Now, she's back with another convention, full of swag to buy, and a new 64-page comic book that she's working with Tom Hutchison and CB Zane on putting together as part of the pledges.

No Going Back | A Graphic Novel

Kickstarter link

They survived the collapse of society by building a wall...

It circled the town, keeping the good in and the bad out. Families, farms, community, in. Devastation, horror, starvation, out. This is the world Rebecca was born into. At fourteen, she yearns to know what is beyond the wall. Could the world really be as bad as her parents say? Can she find the courage to step outside, to find the truth?

First, it was just curiosity. Just wanting to see what was on the other side of the wall. Then a comic book, of all things, lead to Rebecca being on the run. She ran and didn't look back. She couldn't. Because once you see what's out there, there's No Going Back.

Why I think you'll love it:

Aside from being gorgeous, I love the idea of being walled off from the outside, and then seeing what's outside and being completely changed. It's very much a Joseph Campbell idea of crossing the threshold and entering a new world, and my book The Vessel is very much based on this idea as well. If you liked, the Vessel, I think you'll dig this one.

Mutant Football League #1

Kickstarter link

MFL Super Fan Christian Howard and Independent Comics Pioneer Tim Tyler (Blood Reign, Devil Jack, Dreadstar, Razor, Faust, Hades, Fiends Bolt Action) and Rat House Comics bring you the First premiere issue of Mutant Football League. This full color, Magazine style Monster is packed with all the things you love about the Classic game as well as new, not yet seen aspects of the MFL Universe.

Why I think you'll love it:

This game was so much fun, and looking through the comic, it looks like it follows in the irreverent, hilarious, and action-packed style of the old game. Sometimes, you just want something fun, right? Since you like monsters, I think you'll like this one, too.

TRANSHUMAN - RIVKA'S STORY - Graphic Novel

Kickstarter link

Transhuman - Rivka's Story details the world on the precipice of a major technologically shift. Suddenly no one isn't limited to the capabilities of the human body and with the right augmentation is able to transcend them. Follow Rivka (she's a transhuman) as she gets caught between two opposing views while having to resolve a dark secret from her past.

Rivka is an ex-soldier currently working as a bodyguard for hire. After an accident in the field, she had her right eye, ear and hand replaced with cybernetics. Her augmentations are connected directly via a neural link allowing her to perform superhuman actions.

Rivka still has flashbacks to that fateful event. She lives alone and her home life is a mess. She still carries a deep guilt from her previous life as well as coping with divorce proceedings which she suppresses with a nightly bottle of red. Even with the augmentations to be more than human, she can't escape the realities of her every day problems.

Why I think you'll love it:

Es Kay is an amazing storyteller. He has a way of combining action, heart, and a message in a way that I absolutely love. If you love action and deep thought, I think you should check these out.

Dirty Work At The Crossroads #2: A Post Apocalyptic Tale

Kickstarter link

An illegal genetic research lab was set up on a remote planet. But after the corporation in charge came under investigation by officials on Earth, all communications were cut off and the colonist abandoned, leaving them marooned on a world with harsh conditions and limited natural resources.

Seventy years later, the outlaw Sunday Childs, born into this world, struggles to survive the apocalyptic landscape populated by warring factions and escaped genetic experiments.  Sunday's luck will change for the better or the worse when she is sent on an assassination mission by the planet's ancient ruler know as the Mother.

Why I think you love it:

Hello. People fighting monsters in the apocalypse? That's totally Ichabod and Katrina. This actually has a very Katrina vibe to it, and it looks awesome.

Surprise unlock + oodles of cool projects to check out!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Sep 25, 2020 at 05:56:44 PM

Hi!

I'm in a good mood today, because we're about to duck under $1,000 from funding, so I'm doing a surprise unlock of some cool digital comics for everyone. By being a backer, you AUTOMATICALLY get these without having to do anything.

Assuming we fund, everybody will receive four awesome digital books including XCT: Extreme Champion Tournament #0 by Shaun Paulet and Brendan Halyday, Jerry Gaylord, Gabriel Casatta, Optic Pop, and Jason Franks, Damn Tourists #1 by Allen Carter, The Milky Way Defense Marines by Andre Owens, Rully Akbar, Periya Pilla, Chris Johnson and Holly Glasen, and Reclaiming Godhood #1 by Braiden Cox, Aaron Hazouri, Robert Doleno, Samir Simao and Ray Zapada Jr.

Just my way of saying THANK YOU!!!

My friends have so many cool projects to going right now you might have overlooked

I know most people don't scroll past the first couple of pages of Kickstarter projects, so I wanted to highlight some projects you might have overlooked that my awesome friends are making. There are quite a few today, so I'll tell you why I think you'll love them, too.

Kickstarter link

Mythos Madness: Cthulhu Mythos 3D Printable Miniatures is the creation of 3D artist, illustrator and RPG fanatic Andrew Pawley. This campaign is for printable STL files to print at home! The bundle contains 40 chibi and multipart models!

Become one with the Cosmic Horror throughout the Multiverse with these Mythos inspired models! With characters from the Cthulhu Mythos, Dunwich Horror, The Dreams In The Witch House, Mountains Of Madness and more, this set is a great way to share the insanity amongst your friends!

Why I think you'll love it:

Andrew has been making cool stuff for so long, ant I love the idea of his Dice Heads line. Whether you're a gamer or just a Lovecraft fan, they are absolutely adorable collector items and Andrew makes them with care.  I mean, look at just how cool they are in this picture below. So cute right?!

Drexler #3

Kickstarter link

When his sister summons him home to help solve a string of grisly murders, Drexler, the town outcast must outrun his own demons to help save the town that cast him out.

Why I think you'll love it:

Lovecraftian horror meets deep space, plus the art is AMAZING. Nathan knows how to bring in a beautiful book and with a cover inspired by Mike Mignola's Hellboy...I mean how can you go wrong?

Rafael Garcia: Henchman #1

Kickstarter link

What if life in a super-villain organization was less like a James Bond movie and more like working at Walmart Corporate?

Rafael Garcia: Henchman brings the old familiar tropes of a dark workplace comedy by way of a brand-new cinematic superhero universe. From “Mr. Iglesias” Writer Peter Murrieta and Writer/Filmmaker David Schrader, comes an action comedy that mixes the daily grind of The Office with the slacker absurdity of Stripes -- if the General in charge was more like Lex Luthor.

The series is brought to you by lifelong readers of comics with a deep love for the world of superheroes. A love that planted the seed for questions like “Who provides the janitorial services at JLA Headquarters? And do they have a benefits package?

Why I think you'll love it:

I know Starburns and David Shrader, and they are both hilarious. David's Baby Badass book is a wonderful mix of comedy and action, and I'm sure he'll bring the same irreverence to this book, especially since that's what I've grown to expect from Starburns.

Plan 59 from Outer Space

Kickstarter link

Back in 1957, Ed Wood brought us a movie about aliens who tried to raise the dead in order to destroy humanity in order to prevent us from causing a galaxy destroying weapon that they believed we would one day create. This was Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Obviously, plans 1 through 8 failed, and (spoiler alert, but frankly the movie has been out for 63 years now, so there shouldn't be much to spoil) so did Plan 9. But what happened in the years since 1957? Did the aliens just give up? Were they going to cease their plans to stop us and save the galaxy? Of course not. Almost 60 years have passed, and in that time, they have attempted to destroy us nearly 50 more times, and humanity has become quite adept at fighting them off. But today, they are coming back for their 59th plan, a plan that is so nefarious, it just might work.

How will the aliens try to destroy humanity this time? Just look in your hand. That little device that's always by your side and that you could never live without. They will destroy us using our own cell phones.

Why I think you'll love it:

James Mascia has had his share of ups and down in the past few years, but I love seeing him coming back and trying again and again, and this one looks like the kind of pulp goodness I can get behind. I have my fingers crossed for him and this project.

Major Holmes & Captain Watson Issues #1-2! - ENDS TODAY

Kickstarter link

MAJOR HOLMES & CAPTAIN WATSON is a true labor of love for me, as a writer. I've wanted to tell this story since I was 9 years old, when my Grandmother gave me a copy of The Complete Sherlock Holmes and I fell in love with adventure stories. When (most of) the Holmes canon became public domain, I decided I wanted to put a new twist on the old tales, to create a new Holmes and Watson that shook up old ideas. Sheffield Holmes and Imogen Watson are equals, more than anything else, real partners and friends who rely on each other. They are both great detectives and skilled spies as well, and England will soon need them. They also each old dark secrets about themselves...

Why I think you'll love it:

First, hurry, cuz this ends today. Second, what's not to love about a remixed Sherlock Holmes tale, especially one where Holmes and Watson are equals. Jeff Rider puts together a hell of a book, and this one is no different.

Plainer Jane: A modern day story of murder set in Manchester - ENDS IN A COUPLE HOURS!!!

Kickstarter link

The darkly comic story of Jane Pearson, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl who becomes a brutally efficient killer for hire.

With no training, no special skills, just her own cunning, brutality, and fearlessness, Jane leaves a trail of bodies behind her, ultimately going head to head with the feared and secretive criminal gang, The Nexus, in a war that could ultimately cost not only her life but the lives of everyone she loves.

A real world comic book set in modern day Manchester.

Why I think you'll love it:

Okay a confession. David is the only creator on this list I don't know personally, but when I found this book and that it ends in just THREE HOURS, I had to include it. I mean, look at that pulp goodness, and what a hook!

Xob issue 1 - 3

Kickstarter link

Xob (pronounced SAW) is an ancient entity, that has been passed from person to person throughout the centuries. The power originally was used to protect the Hmong people of Southeast Asia. Tracy Lor, the current emissary of the Xob power, has decided to buck tradition and use these abilities to protect the world.

Lord Eklips has started his conquest of this world starting in Tracy's hometown Greenville, WA. Trapped in the Dark realm by a previous wielder of the Xob force, he has spent the past millennia scheming and planning an eventual assault on this realm to enact his revenge.

His only oppositions are Tracy, the current host of Xob, and a young shaman named Danny. Though being the world's last hope, each has different ideas on how to save it. Can Xob and Danny get over their differences in time to stop Eklips' plans?

Why I think you'll love it:

You can't have a creator roundup without a fun superhero story, and Kyrun's book is pure fun and you can feel how much he loves the story in every page. I love it so much, and the chibis he makes of his characters are the best.

We're running it back!
over 3 years ago – Mon, Sep 21, 2020 at 05:51:05 AM

We're running it back!

I talked to Bobby and he is letting in give away another one of his awesome hats this week to one lucky backer. PLUS, this week ALL backers are eligible, including international ones. All you have to do is back by Saturday to be eligible!

 Website link

Last week several of you were upset that you weren't eligible since you lived overseas, so this week I'm going to pay for any additional shipping fees if an international backer wins, as my way to say thank you for being awesome!

We're currently, at this moment, $2,082 from funding. I'm still hoping we'll fund this week, and depending how close we are on Saturday I might unlock some ADDITIONAL books for people so we can get over the hump this week, or at least early next week.

Thank you so much for joining us!!!

FOUR awesome projects to check out

I have several amazing projects to show you from all over crowdfunding land, and just like before I'm going to tell you WHY I think you'll love them at the bottom, but I tried to pull from all over this time, including pins, games, and more.

The Moonstone Diadem by Angela O'Hara

Kickstarter link

The Moonstone Diadem is an original fantasy comic with a fairy tale feel, that features a romance between two princesses. It tells the story of Princess Georgina, who discovers that the Moonstone Diadem—the crown jewels of her kingdom—were stolen from the hidden realm of the elves hundreds of years ago.  Together with the elven princess Seren, Georgina resolves to right the wrongs of the past—and the Moonstone Diadem might be the key...

Why I think you'll love it:

I mean...beautifully drawn LGBTQIA+ fantasy is a complete weakness of mine, and this one looks SO AMAZING! If you liked Shannon Kirkwood's work in the Cthulhu is Hard to Spell anthologies, or Angela Oddling's paintings, or Abby Butler's work in the anthology series as well, this one should get you hyped.

Demons Ate My Neighbors! (DAMN!)

Kickstarter link

Demons Ate My Neighbors! is a retro-inspired twin-stick roguelite shooter developed by Tuned-Out Games that's bringing nostalgic cult arcade horror to PC and Nintendo Switch™ in 2021!

1991 - it seems like any other sweltering July in the sleepy suburbs of Fairweather Valley... Until a cursed VHS unleashes untold horrors upon the neighborhood, turns the residents evil, and generally makes April & Joey's summer a total bummer.

Our heroes must exorcise their neighbors from hell, fight their way back to the haunted High School and rewind their summer to save the world!

What happens when you mix the manic, scary, funny tone of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, with rogue-lite combat of Enter the Gungeon or The Binding of Isaac with of the funky co-op chaos of ToeJam & Earl?  You get DAMN! (Demons Ate My Neighbors!)

Why I think you'll love it:

I know this one is a FAR way from funding, but this one looks so good. I don't play a lot of video games anymore, but when I do, I prefer the retro style, and hunting monsters is in my list of very relevant interests. I mean THIS BOOK is called Ichabod Jones: MONSTER HUNTER, so if they are in your interests, too, you should check it.

Horror Escape Room at home

Indiegogo link

"The Butterfly Curse” is an original horror escape game that mixes physical and digital puzzles with dark narrative to immerse you in a such terrifying experience that it may be impossible for you to distinguish reality from fiction.

Why I think you'll love it:

Admittedly, this is a weird one. First, the initial Kickstarter campaign is over and they are running a second one on Indiegogo. Second, this one isn't on Kickstarter right now. I am massively skeptical of anybody that contacts me about cross promotion, but I decided to look them up, and saw that they are basically offering an at home escape room. I LOVE escape rooms, and since I can't go anywhere right now, being able to do one at home is VERY interesting to me, and with Halloween coming up, I thought it would be fun for you as well.

Devilish Delights Enamel Pin Series

Kickstarter link

Welcome to the hellish mind of Devin "Spicy Donut" Lawson. An illustrator inspired by vintage advertising and cartoons.

"I love creating characters and I love how devils were often used in advertising in the late 19th and early 20th century. I wanted to continue that spicy tradition with some fun new original characters. I have created several enamel pins in the past and want to  bring some of that vintage devilish design to life."

Why I think you'll love it:

These are some of the coolest pins I have seen in a LONG time. They are big, 2" suckers with glow in the dark and lots of lovely spookiness. But on top of that, ALL backers get 10 free stickers and THREE FREE additional pins. So for $15 you get one of the awesome original pins, plus 10 cool stickers, and THREE additional pins.

That is bonkers. If you're a pinhead like me you can't say no to an offer like that. My bag is going to have all the spooky ookiness this year. WHEEEE!!!

We have awoken the Fundle Bundle!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Sep 16, 2020 at 06:20:16 AM

Hi!

We're less than $2,500 from funding and I am hoping we can get there this week, which means we've awoken the Fundle Bundle, a huge bundle of awesome comics that you will get once we fund. You don't have to do anything except not cancel your pledge to qualify for all these awesome books. Oh, I mean, we have to fund, but assuming we fund, you'll get all of these.

Once we fund, every backer gets digital copies of Hell, Nebraska VOLUME 1 by Shaun Manning and Anna Wieszczyk, Like Father, Like Daughter #1 by Kathryn Calamia, Morningstar #1 by Gerimi Burleigh, Seed Seekers VOLUME 1 by Martha Schwartz, Shadow Damage by James Burton, Sunmaker #1 by Liam Hayes and Ryan Kroboth, The Agency VOLUME 1 by Ruben Romero, Sivester Aguilar, and Avery Ferdinand, The Following Casework #1 by Jack Holder, Lucas Santos, Chunlin Zhao, and Micah Myers, The Last Ember #1 by Brand Fowler, John Wilson, Rudi Sucipto, Lisa Moore, and Cary Kelley, Shy #1 and #2 by Joe Ranoia and J.C. Grande by and Water Ward 2288 #1 by Timothy Fling, Bruno Lima, Dijjo Lima, and Justin Birch.

That's TWELVE comics, including several FULL VOLUMES. That's over $60 in additional, FREE books as my thank you for helping us fund.

Thank you so much for helping us get this far! If you haven't yet, tell a couple friends about this campaign that you think will dig it. :)

A project you should check out

Thalara: The Last Artifacts

Kickstarter link

While not a comic, this card game has been praised for its magnificent artwork: The author has connected the characters' abilities with written background stories in the campaign's updates. Thalara - The Last Artifacts is set in a dying fantasy universe in which the magic energy is dwindling. A game only takes 20-30 minutes and what makes it unique (apart from its artwork) is the virtually non-existent luck of the draw, everything is based on the players' decisions. If you like tactical play, mind twisting duels in short rounds, you should definitely check out Thalara on Kickstarter.

I checked out the gameplay demo of this game and it looked really fun. I've been actually trying to figure out how to do something in this style for an Ichabod game, and this gave me tons of ideas.

CORRECTION: GOOD NEWS!!!!
over 3 years ago – Mon, Sep 14, 2020 at 08:06:58 AM

Hi!

So, earlier I told that we DIDN'T unlock the full birthday bundle, but less than five minutes AFTER I sent that update an amazing backer pledged over $300 and knocked us over $15,000, which means I AM unlocking the full birthday bundle for everyone!

I know "technically" they backed AFTER the cut-off, but y'all are just so great, and they are just so great, I decided to unlock it anyway since I am very fond of you.

WOOHOOOO!!!! And now, I'm going to share with you some other cool projects I found.

FOUR more AWESOME PROJECTS to back

Since it's Sunday, and that's the day when I generally scroll Kickstarter projects for new cool stuff, I thought I would share with you some really cool campaigns that I think you'll love.

Because there are FOUR different ones, you might think I didn't hand select them specifically because I thought you would love them, so I added a "Why I think you'll love it" for each campaign.

I spend a couple hours a week of the campaign tracking down cool campaigns from all over the web, and I pass by 99% of them in order to bring you the ones I think you'll love. I hope you'll check them all out.

Paternus: Wrath of Gods - Fantasy Novel Hardbacks

Kickstarter link

Even myths have legends. And not all legends are myth.

When a local hospital is attacked by strange and frightening men, Fiona Patterson and Zeke Prisco save a catatonic old man named Peter—and find themselves running for their lives with creatures beyond imagination hounding their every step.

With nowhere else to turn, they seek out Fi's enigmatic Uncle Edgar. But the more their questions are answered, the more they discover that nothing is what it seems—not Peter, not Edgar, perhaps not even themselves.

The gods and monsters, heroes and villains of lore—they're real. And now they've come out of hiding to hunt their own. In order to survive, Fi and Zeke must join up with powerful allies against an ancient evil that's been known by many names and feared by all. The final battle of the world's oldest war has begun.

This series looks SERIOUSLY epic. I love myths, magic, and monsters, and this trilogy looks to have it in spades. I picked up the first book and I'm EXCITED AS ALL HECK to check it out.

WHY I THINK YOU'LL LOVE IT:

My work is heavily influenced by mythology and my Godsverse Chronicles novel series is set against the backdrop of many awesome mythologies. Ichabod is also HEAVILY steeped in mythology, especially beginning in the second volume.

STANDSTILL 1-4 Survival Horror Comic

Kickstarter link

"Standstill began with a simple yet terrifying idea – what would happen if 90% of people in the world suddenly stopped moving? They were alive, paralyzed and prisoners in their own bodies. That is a very dark beginning but then I wondered where would you go from there? What kinds of people would be left and what would the world become. We all have some experience with apocalyptic fiction – it’s everywhere in many different forms. However, it doesn’t always include all the crazy things and real dangers that could take place."

This book reminds me some of the amazing pulp horror from the 1930s and 40s, mixed with an all too prescient story and theme. This book is all black and white, and it's really quite beautiful looking. There's violence and nudity in this one, and it adds to that raw, visceral feeling that adds to the book.

Why I think you'll love it:

Ichabod fans tend to LOVE horror, and since this is an apocalyptic horror story at its core, it should scratch that itch. Also, because I've run two Lovecraft anthologies, fans of my work also tend to love the old pulps, and this feels like it fits right in with that tradition.

DON'T EVER BLINK Issue 1 (of 5)

Kickstarter link

Only a few years ago, Detective Rendall Robinson and his partner Detective Vicki Lopez were the officers tracking down a serial killer. The killer murdered sixteen people, euthanizing them, all found with their eyelids sewn shut, and was never caught. The murders were random and seemingly held no pattern which baffled the detectives, the police, and everyone in the town. And then, out of nowhere and with no provocation, it ended. But not without a cult following beginning for the killer...

DON'T EVER BLINK is the return of the killer, a second-coming, and Detective Robinson and Detective Lopez are back on the case and are determined to catch the killer this time around, and their best chance of doing so is the only person to ever survive... Tinsley Marissa Grace.

I have know Brian forever, and every time I see his work, his work blows me away. I'm super excited for this book. If you've never checked out Brian's work before, then you are in for a treat.

Why I think you'll love it:

First, Brian tells a great story, but also, horror mystery fits in with that Lovecraft tradition. Plus, no matter what, Brian just keeps grinding away and turning out great work.

Starlite Issue #2: Former Child Superheroes - KIDNAPPED!

Kickstarter link

What happens to child superheroes after they're all grown up?  Do they end up like countless Hollywood child stars: a heroic past haunting their present, forgotten by the pop-culture zeitgeist only to be recalled in nostalgic listicles on YouTube?

Chris and Sara Sheridan - formerly Mighty Boy and The Melter of the sensational Ultra Kids - vanished from the public eye five years ago, leaving the world to wonder where they went. When a tabloid reporter tracks them down, all three are pulled into an interstellar adventure that none of them could have ever imagined.

In this issue:

  • Bear witness to trans-dimensional spider wizards!
  • Learn who kidnapped Chris, Sara, and Roger!
  • Discover Roger's obsession with pennies!
  • See Sara's artistic talents!

My buddy Greg Smith co-wrote this series, and you might remember him as a creator in the Monsters and Other Scary Shit anthology, where he wrote two stories. As the co-writer of one of my favorite Apocalypse books, Junior Braves of the Apocalypse, I am psyched for this book. I haven't read Travis Webb's work, but I'm excited to check it out, too!

Why I think you'll love it:

Alright, I admit this one is more a flier than the others. I'm very, very sure about the others, but with this one, it just looks like it's so much fun, and I trust Greg. Plus, I love fantasy, magic, and dark things, but sometimes I just want something that looks super fun and adorable, and if that sounds like you, then you should check it out.
